It’s been a while, but I finally managed to get some pics of the Somerset Beach Top. I designed this last Summer and then tucked it away for safe keeping. Since I hadn’t snapped and photos I put it in my “do not wear” pile. Now I’m excited that I can finally queue it up in the clothing rotation.

After I was all done I tried the top on and realized the very deep V back made the shoulders slip after some wearing and moving around. I decided to just make a small stitch to tack the back. You can see where the motif is joined at my shoulder blades in the photo above. If I had kept any of the yarn I maybe would have made a 6″ chain and worked a row or two of single crochet and put that across the top of the back to hold it instead of doing the small stitch mid-back. Next time I design something with this shape that’s my plan.

Materials

  • Suggested Yarn: 4 (6) balls We Are Knitters, The Cotton [232 yards, 100 grams, CYC #4; 100% Peruvian Pima Cotton] Color: Terracotta
  • Hook: US size H / 5mm
  • Gauge: 15 sts = 4” in sc
  • Notions: Yarn needle for weaving ends
  • Finished Size: S/M (L/XL) – Length: 24 (26.25)” / Width: 44 (56)”

The Pattern

This top is worked from the center out in two pieces. I have worked one side and then went back to continue from the center spine for the second half. If you find this to be cumbersome youq can work the second half in the same manner as the first and seam the center. Just remember to leave a neck opening!
