The Philosopher's Stone is the last shawl pattern from the Elements collection, which consisted of the shawls Water, Air, Earth, and Fire.

There are 3 size variations for this shawl. All 3 sizes are worked the same through row 122. At this point the smallest size will split and be worked from its own set of instructions and chart. The 2 larger sizes continue together.

To complete the smallest variation (“Short”) you will need at least 600 yards of ngering weight yarn. There are a few extendable rows at the end of this size should you nd yourself with more yarn and the desire to continue for a little further. The “Short” version has 168 rows with the potential to work to row 176.

The “Standard” version uses the entirety of two skeins of Polka (100 grams/400 yards each equalling 200 grams/800 yards total). is brings you through 194 rows of the pattern.

The “Extended” version follows the same chart/ instructions as the “Standard” size, but continues to row 210. For this you will want an additional 40 grams (160 yards) of yarn. These last 16 rows can be repeated until your shawl is the desired size.
