
MATERIALS
- Yarn: Lion Brand Fifty Fifty – 1 skein Ecru, 2 skeins Charcoal, 5 skeins Black; 1 skein Burgundy
- Needles: US 17 circular needles, 32″ or longer
- Yarn Needle for duplicate stitch
- 5″ piece of cardboard (optional for tassels)
Gauge: 1.5 sts per inch in stockinette
Finished Size: 40″ wide x 55″ length
INCREASE
With Color A (Ecru), cast on 5 stitches.
Row 1 (RS): K2, make 1 (M1), knit to last two sts, M1, k2 – 2 sts increased
Row 2 (WS): K2, purl to last two sts, k2.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until there are 29 sts on the needle.
Attach Color B (Black)
Row 3: K2, M1, knit to 2 sts before end, M1, k2 – 2 sts increased
Row 4: Knit
Rows 5 & 6: Repeat Rows 3 & 4 – 33 sts
Change to Color A (Ecru)
Row 7 (RS): K2, m1, knit to last two stitches, m1, k2 – 2 stitches increased
Row 8 (WS): K2, purl to last two stitches working yarn over through the back loop, k2.
Rows 9-14: Work rows 3-8 once more – 41 sts
Cut Color B (Black), work with Color A (Ecru)
Row 15: K2, m1, knit to last 2 sts, m1, k2 – 43 sts
Row 16: K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2
Seed Stitch Section
Change to Color C (Charcoal)
Row 17: K2, m1, knit to last 2 sts, m1, k2 – 45 sts
Row 18: K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2
Row 19: K2, m1, p1, [k1, p1] to last 2 sts, m1, k2 – 2 sts increased
Row 20: K2, k1, [p1, k1] to last 2 sts, k2
Row 21: K2, m1, k1, [p1, k1] to last 2 sts, m1, k2 – 2 sts increased
Row 22: K2, p1, [k1, p1] to last 2 sts, k2
Continue working rows 19-22 until you have 85 sts
Row 23: work row 19 once more – 87 sts
Row 24: k2, purl to last 2 sts, k2
Cut Color C (Charcoal). Change to Color D (Burgundy)
Row 25: K2, m1, knit to last 2 sts, m1, k2 – 2 sts increased
Row 26: K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2
Rows 27-32: Continue working rows 25 & 26 – 95 sts
MAINTAIN
If you have extra yarn you can continue to work rows 43 through 56 as desired for this section to add length to your blanket. At this point in the pattern I found I was using approx. 1 ball of yarn every 16 rows.
Cut Color D (Burgundy). Change to Color B (Black)
Row 33: K2, skp, knit to 2 sts before end, m1, k2
Row 34: Knit
Rows 35-42: Work rows 33 & 34 another 4 times.
Row 43: K2, skp, knit to 2 sts before end, m1, k2
Row 44: Purl
Rows 45 & 46: Repeat rows 43 & 44 once
Row 47: K2, skp, knit to 2 sts before end, m1, k2
Row 48: Knit
Rows 49-56: Work rows 33 & 34 another 4 times.

DECREASE
Row 57: K2, ssk, knit to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2 — 2 sts decreased
Row 58: Purl
Rows 59 & 60: repeat rows 57 & 58 once
Row 61: k2, ssk, knit to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2 — 2 sts decreased
Row 62: knit
Rows 63 – 80: Work rows 61 & 62 another 4 times
Continue working rows 57 – 80 until 11 sts remain
Row 81: k2, ssk, k3, k2tog, k2 — 9 sts
Row 82: k2, p5, k2
Row 83: k2, ssk, k1, k2tog, k2 — 7 sts
Row 84: k2, p3, k2
Row 85: k2, cdd, k2 — 5 sts
Row 86: k5
Bind off all sts
FINISHING
Make 4 tassels (optional). 1 tassel in Ecru and 3 tassels in Black
Attach the tassels to each corner (white tassel goes on cast on edge).
The heart on one corner is worked in duplicate stitch using the Burgundy color. Use the chart below as a guide.

Spot the kitty cat tail!
Laid flat the throw measures 40″ wide by 55″ long.
The cast on edge is the bottom left corner and the bind off edge is the upper right.
